Sleep Matters
🌙 Sleep Support at Rainbow Tree Therapies
Restful sleep is not a luxury — it’s a necessity for healthy childhood development. At Rainbow Tree Therapies, we recognize sleep as one of the most important occupations in a child’s life — and one that is too often disrupted, especially in neurodivergent children.
💡 Why focus on Sleep?
Sleep challenges are a public health crisis.
-
Nearly 75% of neurodivergent children struggle with sleep.
-
3-33% of typically developing children struggle with sleep.
-
About 30% of adults report ongoing sleep difficulties.
-
Poor sleep can negatively impact attention, behavior, learning, emotional regulation, immune health, and overall quality of life.
That’s why Rainbow Tree Therapies is taking on the challenge to support children — and their families — in cultivating the conditions that promote deeper, more restorative sleep.
🌳 How We Help
Occupational therapists are uniquely positioned to support sleep through environmental assessment, daily routine planning, and understanding each child’s individual sensory and regulatory needs. We focus on interventions that have to do with the environment, the person and the daily occupational routines.
At Rainbow Tree Therapies, we believe that sleep is a foundational occupation—essential for health, regulation, learning, and emotional well-being. Yet, sleep challenges are increasingly common.
We’re here to help. Backed by research and inspired by nature, our Sleep Matters Packages empower families with knowledge, tools, and individualized guidance to reclaim sleep—together.

🌙 Sleep Matters: Support for Your Child's Restful Nights
One of our first clients said this:
"We signed up for your sleep class thinking we had nothing to lose, but little did we know we had everything to gain! After 11 years of seeking help for our son, he's consistently sleeping through the night by himself for the first time ever!! Words cannot express how grateful we are for you and your team! We've seen countless providers, and you are the first ones to actually assess our son as a whole to try to figure out the cause of his sleep disturbances and provide an individualized home program for us to try. Your sleep program has been life changing for him and our family, and we will forever be grateful!"

⚠️ Important Note on Scope of Practice
At Rainbow Tree Therapies, our occupational therapists are trained in sleep support as it relates to daily routines, sensory regulation, emotional wellness, and the environment in which your child sleeps.
We bring:
-
🎓 Expert understanding of the process of sleep across development
-
🛏️ Specialized training in environmental modifications to support rest
- 💚 A holistic, nature-based lens that honors the child’s whole system
-
🧠 Additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Strategies for sleep routines and regulation - CBT-I Training(Cognitive Behavioral Training-Insomnia) See certification badge below.

However, we do not diagnose sleep disorders. If at any point your child’s symptoms suggest a need for medical evaluation or formal diagnosis (e.g., sleep apnea, seizure-related disturbances, or neurological causes), we will provide appropriate referrals to a pediatric sleep specialist, neurologist, or medical provider.
Sleep is within OT’s scope of practice when it involves health-promoting routines, habits, and participation in meaningful daily life activities—and that’s where we thrive.
